During a recent appearance, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice producer Charles Roven confirmed his Wonder Woman would be the half-god daughter of Zeus — following the drastically revamped New 52 backstory instead of the original one. Hit the jump for more details on the Batman v Superman Wonder Woman.
That New 52 origin tale stands in stark contrast to Wonder Woman’s original history, which Badass Digest describes as follows:
The original origin is much more interesting and unique. It’s also a lot more complicated, and perhaps a bit too fanciful for the “gritty” DC movieverse. Given that Wonder Woman has, at most, third billing in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, it’s not hard to see why Warner Bros. and DC figured they might as well go with the simpler New 52 version and be done with it.
Also likely factoring into the decision is the fact that, compared to her colleagues Batman and Superman, Wonder Woman’s origins aren’t so well known. Even the most casual superhero fan knows the death of Bruce Wayne’s parents led to the invention of Batman; far fewer people are likely aware that Wonder Woman started out as a clay figure.
Are you bothered by the decision to give Batman v Superman Wonder Woman the New 52 origin instead of the classic one?
