Neill Blomkamp’s ‘District 9’ Gets 8-Bit Cinema Treatment

Sadly, Blomkamp has yet to reach that level of greatness with his follow-up films Elysium and Chappie, both feeling rather derivative and hollow when compared to the substance of his debut film. But instead of lamenting this fact, let’s look at the 8-Bit Cinema District 9 creation that debuted earlier this month.

Here’s the 8-Bit Cinema version of District 9 from CineFix:

The 8-bit version of District 9 moves quickly through the story of Wikus (Sharlto Copley), the Multinational United employee tasked with relocating some of the alien Prawns to a new internment camp. But he ends up getting caught up in a dangerous situation and finds himself infected with alien DNA, slowly transforming him and also giving him the ability to use their alien weapons.

Every single one of these 8-Bit Cinema creations makes me wish that there was a real retro-style video game for some of these movies. It’s fun to watch them play out in this fashion, but it would be even more fun to play them at home.
