Dern and Witherspoon (who played mother and daughter in Wild) are developing the series with Strayed and her husband, but only Dern will be taking a lead role in the series as the advice columnist at the center of the Portland family. Both Dern and Witherspoon will serve as executive producers as well, and the latter actress may have a small role on the eventual TV show which HBO reportedly “bought in the room” according to Strayed.

The author will write the TV adaptation along with her husband Brian Lindstrom (Alien Boy), and she told The Oregonian, “It will be a drama with a lot of humor in it,” she said. “We’re really excited about it.” And as someone who calls Wild their favorite film of 2014, I’m also very interested to see what this group can put together.

For me, Wild came out of nowhere to blow me away as an original, beautiful and moving drama. Both Witherspoon and Dern earned Oscar nominations for their performances, and the film should have been nominated for Best Picture, so having these two working on something new with Strayed should warrant some fantastic results. Dern already has a solid history with HBO thanks to the short-lived but satisfying series Enlightened, for which Dern earned both Emmy and Golden Globe nominations. But maybe Tiny Beautiful Things will last longer on the cable network if it should get a series order.

If you haven’t read any of Strayed’s Dear Sugar advice column, Vulture rounded up some of their favorite installments right here, and they’re certainly worth reading.

Fun Fact: If you’ve seen Wild, the woman in the truck who drops off Reese Witherspoon at the motel in the beginning of the movie is Cheryl Strayed. And if you haven’t seen Wild, you should go out of your way to watch it immediately.
