Rumor: Wonder Woman Solo Movie Is A Prequel Set In The 1920s

Then again, maybe it’s not. A new rumor has come up in regards to that first DC solo movie, Wonder Woman, starring Gal Gadot. Since she’s a character in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, we all just assumed her 2017 solo film would take place in that time period. And while it still might, the new rumor is the Wonder Woman solo movie is set in the 1920s, making it a prequel.
Bleeding Cool first reported the Wonder Woman solo movie rumor. Here are some more details:
Because when Wonder Woman joins him on his return to the world of Man, we all discover that it is the 1920s. And the film will then show Diana exploring that world – a world where women have only just got the vote – from her… unique perspective.
In addition, the site reports a proposed sequel to this film would also be set in the past, jumping ahead a few decades to World War II. It wouldn’t be until the third Wonder Woman solo movie that she got back with the Justice League.
So, does this make sense? In a way. Wonder Woman is a character that audiences are surely excited about and will probably not get nearly enough of in Batman v Superman. An origin story of sorts would solve that problem. However, the fact it’s being released the same summer at Justice League feels confusing. You do the Dawn of Justice, you do the Suicide Squad, momentum is building, then you jump back almost a century before jumping back to the present for Justice League?
I’m not sure I buy this rumor. It feels like an idea that was batted around but never stuck. Then again, Bleeding Cool has been known to break stories like this. If it is true, it suggests DC’s plan is even bigger than we thought. What do you think?
